Bud & rita’s dispensary

We partnered with Nature’s Grace & Wellness, a family-owned cannabis brand with deep roots in southern Illinois farming. Inspired by the owners’ grandparents, who began growing cannabis during the 2014 Illinois pilot project, we created a flagship dispensary concept that honors their legacy.

Our design team proposed a series of brand directions, ultimately settling on the nostalgic theme of a 50s diner, "Bud & Rita’s," named after the grandparents. Using AI design tools, we developed early visuals and playful cartoons that informed the space’s immersive, instagrammable design. The client’s market research confirmed the diner theme resonated with their target audience, helping build a unique brand identity in a competitive market.

We crafted a cohesive design, from curated finishes and custom millwork displays, to branding elements that elevate Bud & Rita’s into a destination—whether patrons are purchasing cannabis or simply enjoying the space. The design incorporates future flexibility, allowing for neighborhood events like street festivals and food trucks, while anticipating regulatory changes.

In addition, Bud & Rita’s integrates intuitive technology to educate customers about product offerings, ensuring transparency and trust in the brand. The result is a dynamic, forward-thinking space that bridges community, heritage, and cannabis.

Avondale, Chicago

2024

In collaboration with Mosaic Construction, we designed the Chicago dispensary at Belmont and Kimball with bold checkered floors and a vibrant teal-and-pink palette, drawing inspiration from the iconic greaser subculture. Playful 1950s diner graphics and slogans like “Take the Blue Line to the Bud Line” create a fun, welcoming experience for all customers while referencing the local public transportation stop that is steps away from the front door.

Murals were commissioned by local artists enhancing the community connection of the Avondale location.

Niles, Illinois

2024

In collaboration with Cannabis Facility Construction, we transformed a former restaurant into a vibrant Niles dispensary. The renovation required careful demolition but retained a scenic patio, enhancing curb appeal. Working closely with village officials, we designed community-focused signage, while planning for future amenities like a consumption lounge pending regulatory approval.
