Dispensary 33
Dispensary 33 (D33) was the first ever medical dispensary in Chicago, and now they are the last cannabis company in the city that’s family owned. In January 2020, when recreational cannabis use became legal in Illinois, the brand expanded and now has two locations; its flagship store in Andersonville and its second space in the West Loop.
When designing for both stores, each space took on an identity of its own but their direction relied more heavily on the aesthetics of the individual stores. Andersonville’s style elements lean more towards a “bright and airy” feeling with floral pieces, while West Loop is very industrial and rugged. But both are tied together by a hometown-feel, with art from local Chicagoans like designer Bob Faust being implemented in each space.
From greenery to hardware, each D33 store was designed with authenticity in mind. Now these spaces reflect the identity of Chicago and bring vibrance to a reputable brand.
