Johnson Controls

Old Post Office
28,000 sq ft

Johnson Controls is a global provider of in-store analytics software solutions for retailers and professional services. A move to Chicago’s Old Post Office gave their Chicago Sensormatic team a fresh start after working from home, while providing new space for technology production, product testing, and display. The office is designed as a working laboratory for the company’s ShopperTrak sensor equipment. A custom overhead metal grid system allows the team to mount sensors at entrances, circulation paths, and other key meeting areas to provide data on occupancy and movement.

The suite’s 1930s industrial character is preserved with exposed brick walls, concrete flooring, and historic mail chutes. Our design team created dividing walls with metal mesh details and branding, and crowned the prominent communal areas with modern, linear lighting. Existing brightly colored furniture was balanced with a monochromatic finish palette.
