Siemens

200 W Madison
22,000 square feet

Siemens creates electrification, digitalization, and automation technology, from kitchen appliances to x-ray machines. With offices around the globe, we planned their Chicago workplace to highlight city views and to reference local geography and landmarks. Representing the Chicago River, a path weaves through neighborhoods of desks, connecting staff and creating continuity throughout the office, which fully utilizes the company’s own lighting control technology. The path leads to a bright break space with cloud-like furniture placements, moss walls, and sunny yellow accents, subtle allusions to Chicago’s major recreation center, Millennium Park.

Game tables, seating, and an angled bar make the most of the sawtooth structure, maximizing the unusual shape of the room and its abundant natural light. Saturated booths add a colorful surprise to the otherwise neutral finishes, and hoteling workstations give remote and visiting staff an opportunity to enjoy the new space.
