SNACKDOWN!
FLEXIBILITY-FOCUSED
This healthy snack company is exploring how to meld technology and natural design elements in their flexible workplace.
Gone are the days of hippy granola. Snackdown! is poised to become the next iconic natural food brand with clean ingredients and a modern take on holistic wellness.
Founded in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, and now located in Chicago, the company has experienced significant growth over the last two years, and is in a comfortable spot with a core team of employees ready to take on any snack attack. In Snackdown’s new workplace, all employees sit in a free address plan, where no space is permanently assigned to any one person, including the CEO. The result is fluid communication between leadership and staff.
This dynamic set-up encourages staff to move throughout the day, and work in collaboration, semi-private, social, and focus spaces. Technology allows for a seamless transition between zones, which are designed to fit various work styles and tasks. In addition to overall flexibility, staff wellness was a top priority for the design of the space, as well as areas for research and development, client presentations, and team collaborations. Not only are there many different types of workstations for Snackdown’s staff to choose from, but the meeting rooms are designed to be flexible as well, with movable, reconfigurable furniture.
Snackdown’s products are featured in a showroom kitchen built with AV capabilities for live demonstrations. This feature area is enhanced by a canopy of conveyor tubes holding one of the company’s core ingredients, golden grain. Wood and cork finishes, along with pops of sunny yellow and plentiful plant life, communicate the brand’s focus on pure food that comes directly from nature.
The flexible office boosts productivity, supports health and wellbeing, and gives staff the autonomy of choice.
On the south end of the plan, lounge areas and workstations take advantage of the natural light and inspiring views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan. The showroom kitchen and interactive grain “mill” are the central hearth of the plan, visible from the elevator lobby, the reception area, and two large conference rooms
There is no physical representation of departments in the new office; however, there is a heavy emphasis on marketing, research and development and branding.
70%
of workers are willing to give up benefits for a well-designed work space.
The central kitchen and grain display are positioned to be visible throughout the office, with grain flowing through tubes that meet above a circular bar. This visibility reminds staff of the origins of the company and its best selling product, while creating an exciting backdrop for media segments, demonstrations, research presentations, and events.
